Listen to Your Voice of Reason During Tax Season
Like it or not, it's that time of the year again: tax season, also known as a cyber criminal's holy grail. This article covers some things you can do to protect yourself from tax scams.
Your tax data is a gold mine for cyber criminals!
Many scams and frauds attempt to imitate government services to gain access to your personal and financial information. A reminder the CRA will never:
-
- demand immediate payment by e-transfer, cryptocurrency, prepaid credit cards or gift cards
- threaten you with arrest, deportation or police action.
- leave voicemails including personal or financial information.
- email or text you a link to your refund.
In addition, use strong passwords for your tax accounts and be cautious before clicking links.
